DJ AM Documentary Will Be Released Nationwide
As I Am: The Life and Times of DJ AM has found a distributor who will release the documentary nationwide.
Independent distributor Abramorama will release the documentary May 27 in New York City, June 3 in Los Angeles, and then proceed to expand to theaters across the country. The distributor is making a conscious effort to hit cities with substantial musical cultures, namely Austin, Cleveland, Las Vegas, Miami, and San Diego.
The film covers the career, death, and legacy of DJ AM — born Adam Goldstein. Director Kevin Kerslake received permission from Goldstein’s estate to create the documentary. Which features interviews with Mark Ronson, Diplo, Jon Favreau, DJ Jazzy Jeff, A-Trak, Mix Master Mike, Vice, Z-Trip, Steve Aoki, Paul Oakenfold, LMFAO’s Redfoo and Dr. Drew Pinsky. The soundtrack includes performances and music by Daft Punk, Justice, Outkast, Elton John, The Doors, The Ramones, Blondie, Black Sabbath, Talking Heads, The Outfield, Fischerspooner, Zoë Keating, Jóhann Jóhannsson, Gang Starr, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five.
“As someone who has spent so much of my youth and adult life in and around the music world, I was drawn to that part of DJ AM’s story,” Kerslake said director. “Adam’s will to succeed and ability to overcome the challenges and adversities of his young life are the classic elements of an underdog story and at the same time, his continued struggles with dependency and loss are an all too common side effect of fame and success.”
