alt-J Plays Quite the Rainy Red Rocks Concert

As we sat in the car waiting out the torrential thunderstorm, anticipation for alt-J flew throughout the concert-goers. The parking lot was full of excitement… and a whole lot of rain ponchos.

Once the rain died down to a slow constant drizzle, fans made their way out of their vehicles. We climbed the seemingly endless stairs, soaking wet, wading through puddles to the most beautiful venue around. Ahh, Red Rocks. The rain sure couldn’t ruin the positive vibes in this place!

SOHN, the first opener, began with some groovy tunes which really started the show off right. I unfortunately was still in line for some of his act; but you could hear the wonderful acoustics from miles away. No doubt that this artist set the enthusiasm felt for the rest of the show!

Afterward, the lovely Tove Lo came to the stage! Her rocking 80’s attire combined with the funky dance moves and high energy music left the whole crowd dancing. I remember looking out into the sea of colorful rain jackets as she stated how much of an honor it was to play at Red Rocks. A moment you cannot forget.

Finally, the moment the whole crowd was waiting for, alt- J.  Luckily, by then the rain has finally ceased. As the band starts playing their opener, 3WW, the fantastic light show begins as well. The eclectic, beautiful lights changed drastically throughout the performance further engaging every observer.  The concert ranged from the performance of new songs off their latest album and of course classics such as Breezeblocks and Matilda (which had the whole crowd singing).

The vibes could be felt throughout the amphitheater as alt-J killed it during their performance. The theater was full of fans diggin’ the music and boogieing about. Of course, we weren’t the only ones who felt it. Gus Unger-Hamilton, their keyboardist, said it was the “best show of the tour.” What a glorious moment for everyone there!

Check out alt-J ‘s website for details on their new album and upcoming tour dates! You do not want to miss the next time they come to your town!
