Audien’s “One More Night” Lyric Video Is A Work Of Art
Who would have ever thought that Lyric Videos would play such a big role in the art of EDM? To be honest, a few years ago, that answer would have been “Not me.” I stand corrected.
Audien’s “One More Night” featuring MAX is the latest in a string of EDM lyric videos. These videos have proven that lyrics and EDM go hand in hand. Other videos include The Chainsmokers’ “Closer” and Yellow Claw’s “Good Day”. What makes these lyric videos special is the way they choose to juxtapose the lyrics with the imagery. I’m sorry if I sounded a bit nerdy there, I get that way when I talk about something passionately. What I’m trying to say is the font used for the lyrics and the way they appear on the screen fits the tone of the song. It adds a layer of meaning to the lyrics and to the images that appear behind them.
In the case of “One More Night” the font looks like some digital font out of the early 90s. It drips with nostalgia. To add to that nostalgia effect, the whole image occasionally ripples and flickers the way a VHS tape would when you’re watching it on an old TV. Some of you reading this may not be old enough to remember that time. Trust me, that small flicker makes us that remember long for a time in which things were simpler.
And when you listen to the song, as MAX sings about just wanting “one more weekend”, we get the feeling that sentiment of wanting things simpler is exactly what the song is about. We see Audien and MAX roaming the city with their friends, hitting the beach, and either adopting or kidnapping a chicken. That sounds like the good old days to me.
A lot has changed in the art form of lyric videos since we first started seeing them. At first they basically just took the lyrics, sometimes over black, so that we sing along. Now, lyric videos can do a better job of making us emotionally feel a song than a traditional music video could.
