Countdown to EDC Las Vegas with Aly and Fila
The Countdown to EDC Las Vegas series is coming to an end as the festival this weekend quickly approaches. We could not end the series of interview without adding DJ duo Aly and Fila.
Aly and Fila are the single most successful group to have emerged from the lands of Egypt. From the Med to the Red and from up high in Cairo, to down deep in the Sinai, they’ve built an immense, ultra-loyal in-country following. For close to a decade their spirited take on the trance sound has captured the hearts, minds and imaginations of planet trance.
Check out the interview below
Thank you for taking the time to interview with us, where are you right now?
Thank you for having us , We are currently on route to Washington DC for Glow presents Soundcheck 16th June
How did you two get together?
We have been best of friends since Kindergarten and shared our passion and love for Trance music in the 1990s , and decided this is what we wanted to do
Coming from Egypt how is the crowd different there then in the states?
All crowds are unique, but all crowds are passionate in their own way , we love visiting every country that we visit , meeting new people, experiencing different cultures in different countries
You are playing at EDC Las Vegas. What can we expect from Aly and Fila’s set?
Driving uplifting trance , we are playing 04.30 – 05.30 , same set as each time we play there , we love that set , as the sun is coming up , amazing
Are there any other artist are you looking forward to seeing at EDC?
We only arrive on the day of the event and will likely only have time to visit the Dreamstate stage , all performers there we see regularly during our touring schedule, if we had more time we would try visit other stages
Tell us about your latest track “Million Voices” what was the inspiration for that track?
The inspiration was the collective effort from everyone involved with Luke Bond and Audrey Gallagher , they are great to work with . We premiered the track on our BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix and the response has been amazing , we are very proud that we currently sit at No.1 in the Beatport Trance Chart with Million Voices
The relationship with the audience is crucial for a DJ, and yet it seems to be a fragile
one. How do you see the balance between giving the crowd what they want and treating them to something new?
That comes with experience over the years , we have been touring 10 years and like any job or profession as the years go by you are always learning and trying things
There has been a lot of chatter in the news lately about a club not allowing DJ’s to use laptops, what are your thoughts on that?
It would not effect us as we don’t use them on stage
What has been your most memorable experience so far?
Hosting FSOE 400 at The Great Pyramids of Giza in Egypt and also performing there with that backdrop was out of this world
If you were not in the music industry what would you be doing?
Good question – we cannot give you an answer as we have been concentrating on our music career a very long time
Best advice you have been given?
Believe in yourself, work hard and listen to people around you
Do you have any rituals you do before a set or something you have to make sure to have with you each time you perform?
Relax with friends
What is the craziest thing that has happened during a set?
In China last year, the heavens opened, was outdoor festival and promoter held umbrella and cover over head 🙂
If you could ask any one artist any ONE question, who would it be, and what would the
Paul Van Dyk – what was your inspiration for ‘For An Angel’
What do you enjoy doing on your downtime?
Spend time with our family , time with our children and loved ones are precious
Everyone has one, what is Aly and Fila’s guiltiest pleasure?
We try and stay away from any fast food, but once in a while everyone loves a bit of it 🙂
What is one song from another artist in your playlist you can’t get enough of (any genera and decade)
Reorder & Ferry Tayle – Tomorroworld is a track that is being hammered out
