Diplo Announces Indian Version of “Cold Water”
God bless globalization. Diplo, one-third of EDM outfit, Major Lazer, announced the trio’s latest hit, “Cold Water”, will receive an Indian revamp.
Thomas Wesley Penze tweeted the remix comes in honor of the Festival of Lights Day in Diwali. He also revealed that Indian composer, Anirudh Ravichander, will contribute to the track’s upcoming makeover.

A sensation in his native India, Ravichander already holds a number of album credits, alongside a list of collaborators ranging from Penze to composer, A.R. Rahman. Ravichander’s recent signing with Sony Music India indicates a star primed and ready for global stardom. A Major Lazer track is the perfect segue, and Ravichander has high hopes for their partnership.
“Diplo is one of the most talented producers I have met. We together are working on some awesome music, the first of which is the remix of his popular track ‘Coldwater’ with an Indian twist,” Ravichander said in a statement.
Such ‘twists’ are gaining popularity as artists continue to break into new areas through streaming services and the Internet. Francophone chanteuse Héloïse Letissier, aka Christine & The Queens, reissued her already acclaimed debut, Chaleur Humain, in English to additional fame in the US and UK. Ravichander’s inclusion on “Cold Water” reveals a turn to Eastern influence, at a time when the industry is investing more than ever in Asia. For those excited by this possibility, Ravichander also affirmed the remix is just the tip of the iceberg.
“This will be followed by a slew of original tracks that we are currently working on,” Ravichander said.
Expect the track to drop sometime before October 30th, the date of Diwali 2016. The original version, a collab with the as-of-late electronically-inclined Justin Bieber, has racked up over 300 million streams since its release.
