FRDM Fest Giveaway: Party With a Purpose This Fourth of July!
For many Americans, the Fourth of July is a time for celebration. There are fireworks, barbecues, and good times with friends and family – all in the name of independence. But what if you could do all of that while also raising money for a great cause?
Enter Waseel Amoura, one of the masterminds behind FRDM Fest, a music festival-meets-block party taking place on July 2nd in Long Beach, California.
FRDM Fest is “a festival of the people, held by the people, for the people.” Held at the Queen Mary Waterfronts Events Park, it’s the first of its kind: a benefit music festival with all of the proceeds going to charity. “It’s been in the works for about a year,” Amoura says. “We wanted to create a fun Fourth of July event while also giving back to the community.”
Amoura and his friend Karan Ram, both co-founders of the event planning company Moment Entertainment, have been doing this sort of thing since high school. Once they went off to college, the team really took off; they started bringing talent out to parties and branched out of Los Angeles to the Bay area and even out of state.
Now at age 23, the duo has something bigger in mind.
They had always imagined throwing a music festival, and about a year ago an investor approached them with an opportunity to do so. “We wanted to incorporate giving back, but it was hard to find an avenue for that,” Amoura reflects. This time, everything seemed to fall into place. They were able to turn that proposition into a charity festival, in order to help with awareness and branding for the event.
Teen Cancer America, the beneficiary of all proceeds from the festival, is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating hospital wards specifically for teens and young adults with cancer. Although the disease affects people at all stages of life, vast improvements have been made for pediatric and adult cancer care compared to the relatively little headway made for teen cancer patients. With this in mind, Amoura and Ram have set a fundraising goal of $15,000 for FRDM Fest, with 100% of the proceeds going to the charity.
“We’ve always liked creating experiences for our friends,” Amoura replies when asked about his company’s name. “Now we’re creating unforgettable moments for people.”
He says one of the biggest things he’s learned from the experience is how much really goes into organizing a festival of this magnitude, even with his familiarity with event planning. And with an extensive lineup made up by performers like Lupe Fiasco, ARMNHMR, Falcons, T-Pain, and much more, it’s easy to see why.
“It’s been a dream of ours to put on a show like this,” the budding event organizer says. “We’re trying to plan for everything we possibly can, but I think we can handle it.”
