Jordan Cather and Emily Rose Adams make up London’s electro/pop duo that is MissDefiant. I had the pleasure of asking these two beautiful and talented women a few questions to get to know them a little more. Look out cause this duo is heating up the music scene. You will be seeing and hearing them more and more in 2016.
How did you two meet?
J- We went to the same college but didn’t know each other very well. We met again a few years later whilst filming on an ITV comedy show. We were talking all day in between takes about how much we both wanted to start a band.
How did you come up with the name MissDefiant?
J- It’s always been important to us to write our own music and not to be a manufactured girl band. We wanted a name which reflected our strong women vibes!
E- We loved the word defiant and were toying with different words that meant mysterious. So mystifyingly defiant became MissDefiant!
You have a new single out soon, Venus & Mars. Tell us about it.
E- We’re both buzzing for this track to come out! It’s an upbeat pop song with some 80’s synths and disco vibes in there. When we’ve performed the track live it’s always gone down amazingly.
J- We used the “Men are from Mars and women are from Venus” idea for the track. It does actually seem like men and women are from different planets sometimes so we made this literal in the song and became women from Venus trying to get the attention of men on Mars!
When can we expect it to come out?
E- It’s being released on Friday 5th February on Apple Music, iTunes, Spotify, Deezer etc along with a couple of remixes too.
What was it like shooting the video?
J- Cold!! We shot some of the music video in Hyde park early in the morning in a catsuit and little dress. But it was really fun!
Every great artist has a muse, who/what inspires you?
E- We love lady GaGa’s music and fashion style. Also Madonna & David Bowie have been a big inspiration to us.
Name something we would be surprised to know about you?
E- Before the MissDefiant adventure I was working as a classical Soprano performing in operettas, opera & Musical Theatre.
J- I danced on Blue Peter when I was 10. I was given a Blue Peter badge and live on TV I managed to burst a balloon which was intended for a little dog to burst for one of his tricks and I completely stole his thunder by mistake!
Both of you seem to love fashion. Who is your favorite designer?
J- Vivien Westwood
If you were not in the music industry what would you be doing?
J- I don’t think either of us would want to be doing anything else right now! However I have a strong passion for fashion and dance so probably something else in the artistic world.
E- Performing is all I’ve ever wanted to do, so I’d be on stage or in front of the camera doing something!
What is the best perk of doing what you do?
J- Being able to express ourselves when writing and wearing amazing outfits!
E- Seeing people’s reactions when performing a new song for the first time, love that!!
Craziest thing a fan has done to get your attention?
J- One fan edited one of our photos and changed our hair and makeup to make us look like crazy vampires!
Everyone has one, what is your guiltiest pleasure?
E- Chocolate & Wine!
Which 3 artists would you love to tour with someday?
J- Lady GaGa, DieAntwoord, Katy Perry.
Any performances coming up?
E- We were gigging a lot before Christmas in London. Now we’re focusing on getting more tracks done in the studio before setting out to gig with fresh tracks soon!
