Here’s What We Know About Calvin Harris’s New Album

Since he first stepped onto the scene, DJ/Producer Calvin Harris has never been afraid to experiment with a variety of sounds. He is one of the few producers whom mainstream radio listeners can put a face to the name. It can possibly be argued that he was one of the first EDM producers to help EDM cross over into mainstream/top 40 radio.

Think about it; Rihanna’s 2011 hit single“We Found Love,” which was produced by Harris, currently holds the record as her longest running Billboard Hot 100 number one single. It also marks Harris’s first ever Hot 100 number one. Following the success of “We Found Love,” several pop artists began incorporating EDM sounds in their tracks, resulting in Harris being sought out by several labels and A-list vocalists for collaboration.

Last summer, Harris took over the airwaves with his Frank Ocean and Migos assisted “Slide,” and his collaboration with Katy Perry, Pharrell Williams, and Big Sean, “Feels.” Those two tracks from his fifth studio album, Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1, were named “the songs of summer” by various publications. As a whole, the Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1 album has a groovy, modern disco sound, with a tracklist full of feel-good hits.

The title suggested that the album would be followed up with a Vol. 2, however, Harris confirmed on Twitter last week that his new music would be part of a “whole new experience.”

He released the Partynextdoor-assisted track “Nuh Ready Nuh Ready” last Thursday. It is a dancehall-style track with Caribbean influences.

Given the style of his new track, it can be inferred that his upcoming album will have similar sounds.

So what kind of collaborations can we expect to hear on the album? Perhaps another Rihanna collab? Maybe a track with Popcaan? Perhaps pseudo-Caribbean Drake will make a resurgence?

At the moment, we have very little information regarding Harris’s upcoming album, however, you can check out his video for “Nuh Ready Nuh Ready” below!
