House Every Weekend (On Most Weekdays Too)
House music exists for those of us who like a little more buzz in our music. The kind of music you can shuffle to for hours on end and the kind of music that gets you moving. House also picks you up from some of your lowest lows and puts you in one of your highs. It holds a special place in my heart as the sound that made me fall in love with EDM. It also holds true significance for a lot of other festival lovers I’ve met over time and know very well.
“I fell In love with the girl of my dreams listening to Kaskade, a house DJ. It doesn’t get much better than that,” says Charlee Rodriguez, who has been a dedicated fan of the genre for years now.
“I’ve been listening to house since I was a kid. This music is more than just ‘boots and cats’ for me. In a way, it’s my drug. It gives light to the darkest day. It makes me smile when my body doesn’t believe it can. The moments before the drop of a good house track brings me the most surreal feeling that can only be described as the moment in life where absolutely everything is perfect. This is why I do this. This is why I’m into this because for the few minutes that I am put into this house music world, I’m at peace. I’m careless yet aware as I feel the goosebumps on my body as I start to become infatuated with a beat. My mind is put into this world where there is no such thing as negative, only specific levels of happiness that I ascend to as the beat drop approaches and when the beat finally drops, well that’s like going down on the best roller coaster ever.”
Much like Electronic music in general, House music can be split up into numerous sub categories. You can relish in anything from Funky House to Deep House or Progressive House, which tends to be the more common one. In the last couple of years we’ve been seeing a lot more of a much newer kind of House, known as Tropical House, thanks to DJ’s and producers such as Kygo, Lost Frequencies, Sam Feldt, and so much more.
I remember a few months after I started exploring the EDM scene. I ran into an old friend who was curious about my festival adventures and the music that surrounded it. “Is house really as big as it used to be?” He asked, and it reminded me that not many people are exposed to this kind of music or the scene is encompasses.
Of course, I went on for a hot minute about my never ending love for house and I nearly created a playlist for him on the spot.
