Interview with Canadian DJ Giuliano Rascan

Interview with Canadian DJ Giuliano Rascan

We were able to sit down and talk to 18 year-old Canadian DJ and Producer Giuliano Rascan to talk about his latest single “Ladies” on FMLY/Universal records. We also discussed possibly collaborating with his father in the future, inspirations and threw in some fun questions.

A little birdie told us you got into music by your father who introduced you to heavy metal. Can you tell us which bands or artists you looked to back then?

“Oh yes! Lamb of God, Metallica, and Rammstein to name a few….”

Giuliano’s father, Will Rascan of Heavy-Metal band Sacred Blade, introduced his son to music at a very young age. As Giuliano developed a strong interest with heavy metal bands like Metallica, he learned how to play the drums at just 13-years-old.

Since your dad is/was also in music have you ever thought of collaborating with him on a track making it a mixture of Rock and EDM?

“Yes! I can’t even tell you how many times we have thought about how cool it would be to lay some guitar down over one of my beats. I think we may just have to do that one day!”

Giuliano found a way to transition his interest in heavy-metal music into producing Dubstep when his mother took him to his first DJ lesson later that year. From then on he started producing. In 2014, Giuliano released his first single,RADIANT, on Steve Aoki’s label, Dim Mak Records. He has been going strong ever since and now has released his latest single “Ladies.”

Tell us a091114_GRascan_59_EDITbout the single you just released “Ladies” what inspired that song?

“Ladies was inspired by some old school electro I was really into around 2011, and I wanted to bring that sort of vibe back!”

Hitting the level of success you have at such a young age do you ever sit back and think about what you would be doing if you were not where you are now?

“All the time, it actually scares me because I really don’t know what I would be doing otherwise! Music is pretty much my life, and I’m super grateful to be where I am at today, because back when I started I never thought I would make it here.”

Do you still have your residency with The Donnelly Group at Republic Nightclub every month in Vancouver?

“Yes! I am headlining there once a month until December!”

Favorite saying or motto

“If you’re not first, you’re last”

If you could have a super power what would it be and why?

“Being able to teleport would be pretty cool.. then I could teleport to all the cool music festivals that I don’t have a chance to go to ;)”

If you were stranded on a desert island and could only have three things with you whgiuliano-rascanat do you want them to be? (can not say water and fire LOL)

“I wont need fire if I bring my mixtape with me! Just kidding! Hmm…” (he got me there LOL)

1. A plane
2. Gas
3. George Foreman Grill

What do you like to do in your down time?

“Surf reddit, play xbox, hang with my friends, nothing too out of the ordinary!”

If you could create the ultimate EDM festival with yourself as a headliner who else would you want to join you on the line up?

“Carnage, TroyBoi, Stooki Sound, Martin Garrix, Snails, Jauz, NGHTMRE…oh man I could go on forever! Those are just a few that I would love to play with!”

Who or What inspires your music?

“Watching people enjoy it. After every show, I’m so inspired after seeing a crowd dance to my own song. It’s a great feeling. All I want to do after that is make more music!”

Giuliano has also said he looks up to Skrillex, Diplo, & Calvin Harris. The artists who are pushing something new, and supporting the up & comers. They are an inspiration  and make him want to work harder as well.

Favorite place to perform so far?

“This show I did last year with DVBBS, LOUDPVCK, Datsik, and Excision was pretty unreal. Definitely one of my favorites.”
