What We Know About The Chainsmokers’ New Album (So Far)

Love them or hate them, Alex Pall and Drew Taggart, better known as The Chainsmokers, have played a significant role in bringing mainstream attention to electronic dance music. Perhaps one the music industry’s worst kept secrets of 2017 is the New York-based duo’s upcoming full-length debut album, set to be released on April 7th. During a red carpet interview, Taggart accidentally revealed the album’s title and release date to Entertainment Tonight. While the album is still a little over a month away, Mix 247 EDM has the scoop on what you can expect from the upcoming LP.

It will be conceptual: The album, which is titled Memories: Do Not Open, was described in a Twitter Q&A session as “telling a story.” Perhaps there will be a short film to accompany the record, a la Beyonce’s Lemonade? The possibilities are endless.

It will feature all new music: The eras of “Closer” and “Don’t Let Me Down” should be considered separate bodies of work, as the only previously released song featured on the Memories tracklisting will be the ballad “Paris.”

It will likely be heartbreaking: When asked by a fan on Twitter to describe the album in three emojis, the duo responded with a full heart emoji, a dead flower emoji, and a broken heart emoji.

Likely collaborations: It’s already been confirmed that The Chainsmokers are working with Coldplay’s Chris Martin, who was one of the first people to let the cat out of the bag about the duo’s debut album.

The Chainsmokers have also said that a couple of their dream collaborations have taken place during the album’s recording sessions. Perhaps we’ll hear something with Rihanna, who was originally approached to feature on “Don’t Let Me Down.” Or maybe Ellie Goulding will grace the album’s tracklisting with her vocals.

While you wait for Memories: Do Not Open, be sure to check out the incredible new music video for the album’s lead single, “Paris,” below.
