KSHMR Releases New Single ‘Mandala’
KSHMR, whose name is Niles Hollowell-Dhar is a Berkeley, California DJ. He is the son of an Indian immigrant – and you can hear the cultural influences in his music.
Mandala was released as the official Anthem of the 2016 Sunburn Festival. Sunburn is a large festival that happens at the end of every year in Pune India. The track features Indian Singer Mitika Kanwar singing Hindi vocals, which couples well with the Bollywood-inspired melody that comes through for part of the song. The strong beat that carries through the song is great to dance to. The sound, spirit, and danceability of the song earn it the right to be the official anthem for the Sunburn Festival. That’s quite an achievement for a song under 3 minutes.
The single was released on December 26th along with the release of the official music video. Both the video and single were produced by Spinnin’ Records. The video is a montage of images revealing life in India and clips of KSHMR‘s performance at the Sunburn Festival. The video gives you a feel for the vibe of India. We see clips from deserts with camels to jungles with monkeys, to crowded city streets blocked by lounging cows. This diversity reflects on the EDM scene, as dance music overcomes language and cultural barriers. The video does well building hype for the festival. At the same time it also gives KSHMR‘s audience a taste of what influences his music. The video sets the feeling for what the Sunburn Festival is like and builds intrigue for people thinking about attending.
