[Artist to Watch] Put Your Ears in Team Supreme’s Own – AWE
Los Angeles is the home to many electronic artists. Musicians such as Mr. Carmack, Skrillex, and Kayzo, but, recently, there has been a rise in underground artists across the city and if you listen to the underground beat collective Team Supreme you have definitely heard or seen this musician. Going by the moniker AWE, Zachary Urman has been a member of the Los Angeles beat scene for many years. Although you may not have heard of him, it is about time you have as he has been all over the music industry, secretly creating music for your unsuspecting ears. AWE has had his hands in a multitude of music ranging from Alison Wonderland to JACK U’s “Take U There” remix.
Classically born and raised in Los Angeles, AWE has a number of influences. When listening to his big, silky synth chords and percussion one can hear influences from the likes of Flying Lotus, Old School Daft Punk, and the Low End Theory beat scene. In his earlier childhood, Urman began his music career in second grade on the drums and quickly excelled but he wanted more. Soon after he started creating his own music for his computer animations and the rest is history. Not only has he taught himself music theory as well as how to play keys, but he has also clearly put in the ten thousand hours required to be considered a prodigy.
A master at his craft, Urman has yet to disappoint with his music. He is unique in his creativity, using samples of ducks and dogs to create a bad-ass swirl of sounds and beats. If you are curious as to how AWE creates his distinctive sounds, especially his big kicks, check out his videos below:
