[Behind the Beat] Triarchy Talks New Music, Coconuts and Something Wonderful

Triarchy is the producer persona of Miami native Alberto Beeck. Whether you’re a fan of house, trance, or just anything high energy, you’ll love both his original tracks and remixes. Triarchy will be playing Something Wonderful festival in Texas later this month, and he was kind enough to answer a few questions for us in advance of that exciting set. Read on to learn more about the origin of the Triarchy name (one of my favorite DJ name origin stories!), his plans for 2017, and yes – coconuts.

You’re from Miami, which is a major hub for dance music in the United States. How has growing up there influenced your music?

Growing up in Miami has definitely had a major influence on my music and also the way it sounds. Having Ultra in town was a big factor. Going since 2008, the festival developed my taste and knowledge of electronic music.

The word “Triarchy” means a government with 3 rulers – how did you select this name? Is this a concept that relates to you or your art personally?

The three rulers of Triarchy are the music, the fans, and myself. The connection of these three is what makes Triarchy one.

I love your campaign to have people send you coconut pictures to coincide with the release of your track, “Coconuts,” later this month! Such a fun way to interact with your fans! How did that idea come about, and is there a larger project planned for all those coconut pictures?

Thank you! Means a lot! I was trying to find a fun, universal, unique way to engage my fans and everyone loved it! Nothing planned quite yet, but hoping to incorporate it into something.

You’ve released a ton of remixes/edits and are well known for them. How do you decide what songs to remix?

I love doing edits as they’re exciting and keep things fresh. They’re especially good for live use! Usually I like to find the best new instrumental tracks out there and combine them with a recognizable vocal or a throwback vocal to really bring out that nostalgic feeling!s

You seem to really admire Eric Prydz (and who can blame you? He’s incredible!). Which other artists do you look up to or think of as major influences?

Big fan of Prydz! Been following him since around 2006 or so. He’s really maintained his identity in an incredibly impressive way. I also look up to Armin Van Buuren a tremendous amount. I’ve seen him perform 34 times! (Yes, I’ve counted haha) He’s constantly able to re-invent himself in this ever-changing industry.

You recently played Miami Music Week – what was it like getting to be a part of such a major event in your home city?

I’ve been going to Miami Music Week every year since 2008! I’ve learned a lot about the industry because of this week. It gives all the DJs and music personalities a time to come together every year.

In just a few weeks you’ll be playing at Something Wonderful in Texas. What can fans look forward to about that set?

Yup! It’s gonna be my first festival show of the year! Fans should definitely be excited for the amount of new original music and edits I’m going to play. These have never been played at any festival before!

What are your plans for 2017 once Something Wonderful is over?

I’m going to be releasing a ton of original music that I really believe in. Really excited to show everyone what I’ve been working on!

When you visit the Triarchy Soundcloud page, the third song that comes up under your “likes” is a remix of Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up.” Do you have an affinity for 80s music? That song is such a classic.

Hahaha yes, that’s a good remix I discovered the other day by Timmo Hendriks, he has a lot of good work! I definitely have an affinity for 80s music and almost all eras of music!

Tell us a fun fact about yourself!

I’m not a typical DJ.

Is there anyone you want to give a shout out to?

Definitely my family, my friends, and the NÛ Management team. Without them, none of this would be possible. They really keep me motivated!

Thanks so much to Triarchy for chatting with us, and if you haven’t purchased your tickets to Something Wonderful yet, what are you waiting for? Buy them here to get a sneak peek of Triarchy‘s new music!
