Ultimate DJ, EDM Reality Show Will Go On

The American-Idol themed show for DJs titled ‘Ultimate DJ’ has been in the works for almost a year now. Yesterday Yahoo confirmed the show will go on.

“Ultimate DJ will be very much like the World Cup of EDM – country against country, DJ against DJ, fan base against fan base. And with all the voting happening on Tumblr, it’s yet another example of the growing convergence and synergies we are finding between the two platforms,” said Yahoo’s Kathy Savitt.

‘Ultimate DJ’ has also announced the first celebrity judge for the show to be Steve Aoki.

“Ultimate DJ” will be different from most talent shows as it will have pre-recorded parts along with live scenes that will broadcast weekly on Yahoo.

“We have been developing this concept for a while but our partnership with SFX has been a real game-changer for this format,” Cowell said in a press release. “It made complete sense for us to collaborate with SFX with their access to the best up-and-coming DJs and their great marketing platform to build new DJ talent”

“Bringing EMC (electronic music culture) to the world is our goal,” added Robert Sillerman Chairman & CEO of SFX Entertainment. “And building a TV franchise in the USA is a key part of that strategy. It’s always exciting to work with Simon Cowell, and the creative power of the Syco organization is undisputed. They are the perfect partners for our vision.”
