Unlike Pluto, Pusher at Beta Nightclub in Denver (4/6)

The Mile High city was the latest stop for Atlanta-born DJ Unlike Pluto on his Everything Black Tour, and a he proved to all in attendance why he’s one to watch in 2017.

Coming off his latest release “Everything Black”, Unlike Pluto has just started his own tour after supporting Seven Lions and Zed’s Dead on the their recent tours. After a few dates in Canada, he made his way down to the states and played his first show at Denver’s famous Beta Nightclub.

Opener Pusher brought his blend of chiptune-esque, colorful music to the decks as he delved into his recent EP, New Laces. He played an eclectic mix of upbeat house with his own intricately produced tracks and even teased a few new tunes.

As Pusher neared the end of his set, the crowd grew restless with the realization of what was on the horizon.

Unlike Pluto took to the stage and grabbed attention immediately with his choice to start with a Chiodos song. This hardcore song set the tone for the rest of the set, which wove in several different genres but kept a heavier theme throughout the night. In between playing his recent hits “Everything Black” and “Worst of Me”, he snuck in samples of Travis Scott, Drowning Pool and even Dr. DreUnlike Pluto also plugged his older hits, spinning his “Revolution” remix and “Show Me Love.”

Unlike Pluto‘s set stuck out in my mind because of the fearless nature of his samples and song choice. Pulling from genres that are rarely used in juxtaposition, Unlike Pluto was able to transcend the constraints of that sonic dissonance and embrace the dark energy he adores in music. His appreciation for different styles of music enables him to create a very unique and captivating set from beginning to end. Starting at a slow 80 bpm, he slowly raised the tempo throughout the night, finishing at around 150 bpm in a very fitting climax for the evening. I’m expecting great things out of Unlike Pluto, so grab tickets to the rest of his Everything Black tour before they are gone!

I had a great conversation with Unlike Pluto before his set (you can listen to it here), in which he revealed his influences, recent tour experiences and things we can look forward to from him in the future.

Be sure to support Unlike Pluto and Pusher as they hit the road this summer, and keep a close eye on the promising careers of these inevitable stars.
