Woman Who Went Overboard At Mad Decent Boat Party Has Been Identified
A woman went overboard at this year’s second annual Mad Decent Boat Party. Taking place from November 11-15, the Mad Decent label took over the Norwegian Pearl on a 5 day cruise with a course charted from Miami to Cozumel. On Thursday the 12th, at around 7 PM, a woman was seen falling into the water just off while the ship was sailing through the Yucatan Channel, some 22 miles from the Cuban coast. The ship responded accordingly sending out three rescue boats and also notifying Coast Guard.
Mad Decent released this statement just yesterday, “We are deeply saddened by the news that one of our guests on our current cruise went overboard on November 12. The Coast Guard is now leading all search and rescue efforts and the ship is enroute back to Miami. The safety and security of our guests and the ship’s crew is our number one priority, all appropriate safety precautions will continue to be taken for this and all of our events. Our hearts go out to the family and all involved in this incident, and we will continue to support those affected during this difficult time.”
The woman’s body has still not been found, but was identified as Kaylyn Rose Sommer, a 24 year old from Charleston, South Carolina. Initial reports stating that she had jumped off because she had lost a twerk off have since been removed, with her family stating that that was not the case. Kaylyn had a younger daughter, by the name of Rylee. As of Friday, Coast Guard officials reported having searched over 600 nautical miles via boat and plane with no results as of yet.

The festival has since been cancelled and is en route back to Miami with a few acts still playing during the return trip. As a direct result of this incident, the ship was not allowed to dock in Mexico, and artists were forced to cancel their upcoming shows for this weekend. Oliver Heldens left this comment, ““Hi guys, due to the really sad incident aboard Mad Decent Boat Party yesterday the ship was unable to dock in Mexico today as planned by orders of the US Coast Guard, so I cannot currently get off the boat and will not make the show tonight at Fox Theater in Pomona, but we already have arranged a new date for February 20, 2016 with them for everyone who was going to attend. I want to wish my sympathies to those affected by yesterday’s event.” Flosstradamus were also forced to cancel their appearance at this year’s Camp Flog Gnaw.
We here at Mix 247 EDM wish to also offer our sympathy and condolences to the family as well as all others affected by this tragic accident.
