[Listen] Yellow Claw – Good Day ft. DJ Snake & Elliphant
EDM DJ duo Yellow Claw has been rather busy as of late, releasing a new album – Los Amsterdam, and dominating the radio waves with their new hit single “Good Day.” Since their initial days on the EDM scene back in 2010, Yellow Claw has maintained a consistent style that merges hip-hop and elements of dubstep and trap, and “Good Day” ft. DJ Snake and Elliphant is certainly no exception to their usual repertoire.
“Good Day” starts with an interesting comparison to childhood in the lyrics complemented by maracas and a unique churning sound effect. I would compare it to one of those vintage bingo cages with all seventy five balls rattling around within. Once the effect fades out, the overall beat is super bass-heavy and seems to vibrate, which produces a solid wavy effect. Throughout “Good Day” the wavy melody is present and provides an overall catchy, mellow sound.
The build-up is loose, but definitive right before the big moment. Everything has an even pace and volume, particularly the snare effects, which get overdone in so many contemporary EDM songs. The drop is where you really see DJ Snake in the song though. There’s a signature boom, leading into a strong synth/keyboard flitter, and some very unique vocal distortions. The distortions play into the rhythm very naturally, like bird calls complimenting a country wind chime.
Yellow Claw has really recaptured their early sound in “Good Day,” while the soulful vocals of Elliphant certainly wound into the track with beautiful ease. The ending synthesizers are just plain majestic, coming full circle from the heavy drop, all the way back to that trip-hop intro twang. The fade-out leaves the listener with a satisfied feeling, still resonating with the booms and flitters that truly define the awesome EDM DJ duo Yellow Claw.
