In a tragic turn of events, Russian investigators have received an overwhelming number of reports of missing people following the deadly attack on a Moscow concert hall last week. The death toll, which is currently confirmed at 143, may rise even further as more missing individuals are being reported.
The attack, claimed by ISIS, saw gunmen storm the concert hall where thousands had gathered to watch the rock group Picnic. The attackers shot civilians, set the building ablaze, and caused the roof to collapse, creating chaos and devastation.
Amidst the aftermath, Russian President Vladimir Putin sparked controversy by baselessly accusing Ukraine of involvement in the attack, a claim vehemently denied by Ukraine. Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko contradicted Putin’s claim, revealing that the attackers had initially attempted to flee to Belarus before heading to Ukraine after Belarus tightened its security measures.
In response to the attack, Russia has arrested 11 individuals suspected to be involved, four of whom are citizens of Tajikistan. The suspects, appearing bruised and battered in court, have been charged with terrorism and could face life imprisonment.
Disturbing videos circulating on Russian social media show the suspects being subjected to violent interrogation tactics, including electrocution and even mutilation. The brutal methods used in the interrogation have raised concerns about potential human rights violations in the handling of the suspects.
As the investigation continues and the search for missing individuals persists, the people of Russia are left mourning the lives lost in this senseless and horrific attack on innocent concert-goers.
