The U.S. Military Deploys Floating Dock System for Humanitarian Aid to Gaza
In a move to provide much-needed aid to the people of Gaza, the U.S. military has begun the process of installing a floating dock system off the coast of the Gaza Strip. The installation of this system is expected to be completed within the next 24 hours, providing a new and innovative way to deliver humanitarian aid to the region.
The dock system will be anchored 3 to 5 miles off the coast of Gaza, with aid being transferred onto a causeway on the beach. This humanitarian effort was given the green light by Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, who granted permission to Central Command Commander Gen. Michael “Erik” Kurilla to move forward with the installation.
The aid delivery system involves a variety of components including civilian aid ships, a dock, trucks, U.S. Army boats, and a causeway. Additionally, U.S. Navy ships will be providing security for the operation. It is expected that this system will deliver more aid in the first 48 hours of operation than all previous airdrops combined.
The process of transporting the elements needed to build the system began in March, with shipments coming from Virginia to the Mediterranean. This initiative follows President Joe Biden’s announcement in his State of the Union address regarding the importance of providing aid to those in need.
The deployment of this floating dock system marks a significant step in the effort to provide humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza. With the installation set to be completed within the next day, the U.S. military is gearing up to deliver much-needed assistance to those in need.
