According to the latest report from the International Data Corporation (IDC), Android tablets are on the rise, gaining market share at the expense of Apple’s iPad. In the first quarter of 2024, Apple’s iPad saw a drop in market share from 35.2% to 32%, while competitors like Huawei, Lenovo, and Xiaomi experienced significant growth in shipments of Android tablets during the same period.
Samsung, on the other hand, saw a minor dip in market share from 23.2% to 21.7%. Despite this, the global tablet market as a whole saw a small increase in shipments in Q1 2024 compared to the previous year.
Looking ahead, Apple is set to unveil new iPad models at their upcoming “Let Loose” event, while Android enthusiasts can look forward to releases such as a Pixel Tablet without a dock and a sequel to the OnePlus Pad. However, the impact of these new releases on market trends remains unclear.
It will be interesting to see how consumers respond to the new offerings from both Apple and Android manufacturers, and whether these developments will continue to shift the balance of power in the tablet market. Stay tuned for more updates as the competition between Android and Apple heats up in the tablet space.
