April 2024 is set to be an exciting month for skywatchers, with a number of celestial events to look forward to.
One highlight will be the sight of Mars and Saturn rising together in the morning sky, offering a breathtaking view for early risers. Jupiter will also be visible in the western sky after sunset, shining brightly throughout the month. Comet 12P will be visible near Jupiter, adding to the celestial spectacle.
One of the most anticipated events of the month will be a total solar eclipse on April 8, sweeping across the U.S. NASA will be offering a live webcast for those outside of the path of totality to watch the event from the comfort of their own homes.
On April 10 and 11, Mars and Saturn will be at their closest, appearing just half a degree apart in the sky. Skywatchers can also look forward to a slim lunar crescent above Jupiter in the west after sunset on April 10, with Comet 12P visible with binoculars below the Moon.
