Apple’s AirPods Max, the highly popular over-ear headphones, are not expected to receive any major updates until late 2024, as reported by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. According to Gurman’s sources, the only significant changes anticipated for the next version of AirPods Max are new color options and the replacement of the Lightning port with USB-C.
The decision to shift to USB-C is mainly driven by European regulations and to maintain consistency across Apple’s AirPods product lineup. This transition will help ensure that all Apple devices, including the AirPods Max, utilize the same universal charging standard.
However, Apple does not intend to incorporate the H2 chip and its remarkable features like Adaptive Audio and Personalized Volume in the near future. This comes as a disappointment to some users who were looking forward to experiencing these advanced functionalities.
Interestingly, the next edition of AirPods Max may closely resemble the current models to such an extent that Apple may not even change the generation number. This suggests that the forthcoming version might not provide any groundbreaking improvements or significant upgrades compared to its predecessor.
It is worth noting that Apple’s plans may alter between now and the release of the next AirPods Max. As with any product development, unforeseen circumstances or technological advancements could lead to revised strategies from the tech giant.
In a previous report by Gurman, it was stated that by 2024, all three AirPods models and various Mac accessories, such as the Magic Keyboard and Magic Trackpad, are likely to transition to USB-C. This indicates a future where USB-C becomes the standard across Apple’s entire ecosystem.
