The highly-anticipated film “The Fall Guy” made its debut at the SXSW Film and TV Festival, with actor Ryan Gosling and director David Leitch receiving a warm reception from the audience at the Paramount theater.
The movie, which pays homage to stunt performers, follows the story of Colt, a stuntman played by Gosling who is pulled back into the business when the star of a big studio movie directed by his ex (Emily Blunt) goes missing. The film showcases intense action sequences and provides viewers with a behind-the-scenes look at how these stunts are performed.
What sets “The Fall Guy” apart is its emphasis on practical stunt work, giving a nod to the authenticity and hard work of stunt performers. Alongside Gosling and Blunt, the movie features Winston Duke, Hannah Waddingham, and Stephanie Hsu.
The premiere of “The Fall Guy” was attended by industry professionals such as CAA head Bryan Lourd and Universal Pictures chairperson Donna Langley. Gosling’s appearance at SXSW followed his recent performance at the 2024 Academy Awards, where he was nominated for best supporting actor and performed his song from the film “Barbie.”
At the Oscars, Gosling and Blunt spoke about the importance of stunt performers and hinted at the possibility of the Academy acknowledging them with their own awards in the future. “The Fall Guy” is scheduled for a theatrical release on May 3rd, providing audiences with an exciting and action-packed viewing experience.
