The Missing Teenager Child of Slack’s Co-founder Found in San Francisco
In a shocking turn of events, Mint Butterfield, the missing teenage child of Slack’s co-founder Stewart Butterfield, was found in San Francisco on Saturday night. Mint, who identifies as nonbinary and uses they/them pronouns, disappeared from their Bolinas home and was discovered with a man a decade older named Christopher “Kio” Dizefalo, 26. Dizefalo, described as an “adult friend”, is now facing kidnapping charges and other violations.
The 17-year-old was deemed “at risk” due to previous threats of suicide, but fortunately, they were found uninjured in Dizefalo’s white van in San Francisco’s Tenderloin District. Mint told detectives that they voluntarily ran away from home, but suspicions arise that Dizefalo may have coerced them into doing so.
Mint’s parents, Stewart Butterfield and Caterina Fake, expressed gratitude towards investigators for bringing their child home safely. Authorities believe Mint had been in the Tenderloin neighborhood before running away from home, as they were known to frequent the area. Mint was last seen on the night of April 21 and was reported missing by their mother the following morning.
The Butterfield family extended their thanks to family, friends, volunteers, and law enforcement for their support during this difficult time. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of community and the swift action of authorities in ensuring the safe return of a missing child.
