Best Buy Recalls Nearly One Million Pressure Cookers Over Burn Risks
Best Buy, a leading consumer electronics retailer, has issued a recall for approximately one million pressure cookers due to burn risks. The recall specifically affects the Insignia Multi-Function pressure cookers, which were sold between October 2017 and June 2023.
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has reported that the pressure cookers have inaccurate volume markings, posing a potential danger to users. This inaccuracy could cause consumers to overfill the cookers, leading to hot food and liquid erupting when the pressure cooker is opened.
The recall encompasses both the United States and Canada, where the defective cookware was sold. Best Buy has received a total of 17 complaints of burn injuries in the United States, some of which were severe. In addition, 31 reports of food being ejected under pressure have been received. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported in Canada.
To prevent any further accidents, the CPSC advises consumers to thoroughly check the inner pot’s capacity before pressure cooking. It is also crucial to ensure that the lid is fully locked before operating the pressure cooker. Finally, users must wait until the valve on the lid unlocks before opening the cooker.
Best Buy is taking the necessary steps to address the issue promptly. The retailer is directly contacting customers who purchased the affected products to provide clear instructions on how to obtain replacement parts. If consumers have any questions or concerns, they are encouraged to contact Best Buy at 800-566-7498.
The recall applies to Insignia pressure cookers with model numbers NS-MC60SS8, NS-MC60SS9, or NS-MC80SS9. Additionally, inner pots with model numbers NS-MCRP6NS9 and NS-MCRP6SS9 are also included in the recall. Customers affected by the recall can contact Best Buy to receive a free replacement of the inner pot and a new valve that indicates when the pot is locked and pressurized.
Ensuring consumer safety is of utmost importance to Best Buy, and the company is working diligently to rectify the situation. By taking swift action and providing replacement parts, Best Buy aims to mitigate any potential risks associated with the defective pressure cookers.
